Job Details

The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering within the Merchant Venturers’ School of Engineering is seeking to appoint an academic to strengthen and help deliver its Optical Communications and Networking vision.

Successful applicants should have an interest to develop collaborative research activities in photonic technologies and systems that aim at underpinning optical transmission, interconnect and networking technologies, as well as convergence of optical network with data centre and wireless networks within the context of cloud and 5G application of optical networks. The successful candidate is expected to have an outstanding research record in high relevant topics within the above areas, especially demonstrating achievements, leadership and vision in advanced photonics systems research enabling advanced optical communications and networking.

The successful applicant will also be required to contribute to the teaching of photonic devices and components, optical communications and networks, as well as other areas of teaching within the department as appropriate.

The applicant will join the newly created Smart Internet lab (smart internet lab Bristol) which is a joint Research Centre between the communications systems and networks group the Photonics Group and the High-Performance Network (HPN) group under the leadership of Professor Dimitra Simeonidou.

The specific areas of particular interest for this post are: technologies associated with optical data networks such as advanced photonic technologies, optical switching, optical interconnects, optical communications, optical signal processing, optical data centres, optical back-hauling and front-hauling solutions.

This cover post is being offered on a full time, fixed term contract for up to 4 years.
