Job Details
Job Purpose
To create and contribute to the creation of knowledge by undertaking a specified range of activities within the area of tribology and mechanical engineering design specifically related to the improvement of efficiency and performance. The overall goal will be for the knowledge exchange fellow to engage with local businesses in the Energy space, working on collaborative research with University academics to improve their technology and competitiveness.
Person Specification
• First degree in Mechanical Engineering and a higher degree in design and tribology or equivalent qualifications
• High level analytical capability
• An understanding an experience of using tribometers (including software), friction/ wear testing standards and acoustic emission measurement equipment
• Ability and examples of the application of design methodologies for example TRIZ, Pugh analysis
• High level of programming experience with MATLAB, R and similar languages
• Experience of applying machine learning algorithms
• Capability to produce engineering drawings and specifications to BS 8888
• Ability to communicate complex information clearly
• Fluency in relevant models, techniques or methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones
• Experience in the design of bespoke test rigs
• Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
• Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
• Hold valid cryogen training safety passport or equivalent industry specific accreditation
