Under the direction of the Associate Director of Engineering, Maintenance & Utilities, the Specialist is responsible for providing technical support to the Utilities/Waste Treatment Area. Responsibilities include: assisting in the resolution of problems, providing technical support for the demonstration of new and/or improved processes, project coordination, assisting the area in achieving productivity and financial targets, and supporting efforts to maintain regulatory compliance. Primary activities include, but are not limited to:

Addresses technical issues with Utilities Supply and Industrial Waste Treatment Operations and assists in the resolution of problems. Focuses efforts on issues leading to more efficient work practices and information management. This may include, but is not limited to: developing and providing process specific training, abnormality investigation and resolution, process demonstration, productivity and quality improvement investigation, development and/or implementation of new procedures, and technical troubleshooting.

Assists the Utilities Sr. Specialists and Utilities Supervisor as required, in providing the support and/or coordination for all training initiatives.

In coordination with the Utilities Team, provides the utilities support and/or coordination required for capital project installation for the areas of responsibility. This includes, but is not limited to: coordination of construction activities, resolution of utilities issues related to capital installation, and serving as the interface between the Utilities/Waste Treatment Area and the following groups: Global Engineering Services, Contract Engineering Firms, Global Safety and Environmental, Site Engineering, Technical Operations, and Maintenance.

Supports the Utilities/Waste Treatment Area in achieving any and all productivity, financial, customer service and other targets. Focuses efforts on continuous improvement with respect to cost, quality, customer service, and other appropriate measures. Where appropriate, performs analysis of operating data to improve process performance.

Supports all cGMP, safety, and environmental objectives for the utility area of responsibility. This includes ensuring that the Utilities/Waste Treatment Area remains in compliance in all of these areas. Promotes improved communications via process documentation, training, and coordination of necessary indirect work.

Participates as a member of the Utilities staff team including participating in meeting roles and supporting team activities and goals such as continuous improvement projects, metrics, and problem solving efforts.

Qualifications

Education:

- BS or advanced degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Biotechnology, or Related field.

Preferred:

- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in chemical / pharmaceutical or related industry preferred.

- Ability to demonstrate subject matter expertise on multiple major operating systems within the Utilities/Waste Treatment area is preferred.

- Strong inter-personal skills including flexibility and ability to work in a team environment.

- Good written and verbal communication skills.

- Ability to interact with all levels of the business, results oriented, strong analytical skills, and prior process improvement experience.
