Job Summary
This is professional work performing research for projects related to wetland plant ecology and minimum flows and levels and includes preparing technical publications and assisting in the design and performance of technical projects.
Job duties include:
Conducts technical evaluations for the recommendation and adoption of minimum levels for priority surface waters per Chapter 40C-8, F.A.C.; completes environmental assessments, including the collection, compilation, and analysis of data related primarily to wetland vegetation data collection (e.g., biomonitoring, taxonomy and ID); writes technical reports describing recommended Minimum Flows and Levels (MFLs). Provides technical assistance to the MFLs program which may include: providing scientific and editorial review of reports and work products produced by MFLs staff and contractors. Assists with designs and implementation of applied research projects to define or improve MFLs assumptions, criteria, and rule language; completes data analysis and interpretation; and develops technical publications documenting the results of these applied research efforts. Develops scopes of work and associated contract, work order, or purchase order documents, and manages contracts regarding applied research efforts designed to define or improve MFLs assumptions, criteria, or rule language. Maintains a high level of expertise in disciplines relevant to the MFLs program; attends training classes; attends appropriate professional symposia and workshops; and reads related scientific literature. Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in biology, limnology, chemistry, botany, environmental science or related field and four years’ professional experience in the environmental field.
A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in biology, limnology, chemistry, botany, environmental science or related field may substitute for one year of the required experience.
A doctorate from an accredited college or university in biology, limnology, chemistry, botany, environmental science or related field can substitute for two years of the experience described above.
Professional level experience in environmental protection or research can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

Base salary: $45,801.60
Starting salary commensurate with selected candidate’s competencies and qualifications.
