The Executive Director of Real-world Data (RWD) Analytics and Scientific Methodology leads a team of data scientists and outcomes researchers to generate scientific evidence and insights through innovative RWD analytics and predictive modelling to enable the company to understand and communicate the full value of Merck products and optimize market access and patient outcomes.

The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in real-world data analytics, in depth knowledge of outcomes research methods and full understanding of the evolving health care and payer environment in US and ex-US markets, health technology assessment needs, and the demands of external payer customers. The Executive Director should have strong strategic thinking, leadership, communication and people management skills.

Responsibilities:

Lead the RWD Analytics team in the Economic and Data Sciences (EDS) department of the Merck Center for Observational and Real-world Evidence (CORE) to develop and implement observational studies using real-world data to demonstrate the value of Merck medicines and vaccines;

Lead, manage, support and provide strategic direction to a team of 3-8 data scientists and outcomes researchers;

*
Accountable for the development and prioritization of a portfolio of innovative, timely and robust observational studies using real-world data to support market access, pricing, reimbursement, HTA, formulary listing and promotion of Merck medicines and vaccines;

*
Contribute to the development and implementation of real-world data strategy at Merck;

*
Build effective working relationships with CORE product line leads and product development team value evidence subteam leads to ensure that real-world evidence (RWE) strategy and plan fully reflect payer/HTA requirements; develop a deep understanding of value evidence needs and ensure delivery of RWE programs that are responsive and strongly supportive of the value evidence strategy;

*
Develop effective relationships with external thought leaders in RWE, comparative effectiveness research and data sciences so as to maintain an extensive understanding of external environment, create opportunities for engagement, and to establish Merck as a leader in the field.

Qualifications

Requirements:

*
PhD, MD or PharmD and 7+ years of experience in related discipline with a preference for Ph.D.;

*
Extensive track record and experience in observational and real-world data studies;

*
Experienced leader with demonstrated ability to build effective teams and develop talent; Able to motivate and channel energy of others toward a clear purpose;

*
Ability to seamlessly interact on both business and scientific issues;

*
Extensive track record interfacing with R&D and commercial organizations in pharmaceutical industry;

*
Demonstrated depth of understanding of observational research methods, HTA, comparative effectiveness research, health care and data science trends, and ability to leverage health outcomes and data science expertise to meet evolving business needs;

*
Evidence of technical expertise of applying RWD evidence and insights at the therapy/product level;

*
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with external customers and experts;

*
Well-developed business acumen;

*
Demonstrated customer focus;

*
Strong decision-making skills;

*
Excellent matrix, interpersonal and influencing skills;

Financial management experience;

*
Experience in leading and managing change, including a track record of flexible, out-of-the-box thinking and responding effectively to rapidly changing requirements;

Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
