Duties and responsibilities:

  • Teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Assist in the development of new modules in the area of intercultural communication, public speaking and rhetoric.
  • Initiate, conduct and sustain high level research that leads to publication in peer-reviewed academic journals in communication science.
  • Provide study guidance to postgraduate students.
  • Participate in community service activities.
  • Perform academic administrative duties.
  • Contribute to curriculum development within the faculty. 

    Inherent requirements:

    Senior Lecturer

  • PhD in Communication Science with a focus on intercultural communication, public speaking and rhetoric.
  • Proven experience in the presentation of papers at national scholarly conferences.
  • Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship.
  • An NRF rating or demonstrated potential for obtaining an NRF rating.
  • Proven experience in supervision of postgraduate students.
  • Proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journal.
  • Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society or committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels.

    Required competencies:

  • Scholarly writing.
  • Administrative skills
  • Mentorship skills
  • Supervision skill


  • Proven teaching experience at tertiary level in the field of intercultural communication, public speaking and rhetoric.
