Library and Information Services

Information Librarian (post level 11/10)

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Equip UFS service beneficiaries with multi-literacy skills (Information, Digital and Research literacy skills) required for academic success and life-long learning.
  • Conduct structured library orientation introducing the library to new service beneficiaries.
  • Build Faculty collection that meets the teaching, learning and research information needs.
  • Increase the visibility of UFS Library and Information Services (LIS) in the academic programme of the university, in the community and the LIS profession.
  • Deliver focused and embedded information services.
  • Conduct user satisfaction and information needs surveys, and deliver client-centred services.
  • Market, communicate and advocate for UFS LIS services using different platforms and promotional materials

    Inherent requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science/Studies (B.Bibl, B Inf.) or equivalent qualifications (Any Bachelor’s degree plus Postgraduate Diploma in Library and Information Science).
  • Two (2) to three (3) years’ relevant experience.

    •  

    Required competencies:

    • Computer literacy (knowledge of Microsoft Office).
    • Presentation and training skills.
    • Information search techniques.
    • Collection development assessment, selection and usage analysis.
    • Ability to lead and be led in team settings.
    • Customer orientation competencies.

     

    Recommendations:

  • Three (3) years’ relevant experience in academic library setting.
