MRI Imaging Staff Scientist, and postdoctoral imaging fellowship


Immediate opening for one PhD Imaging Staff Scientist and one PhD imaging postdoctoral candidate to join a highly translational molecular imaging and nanotherapy group. The position is open to both US graduates and International candidates with appropriate visa status. The appointee(s) will have earned a Ph.D., in Biomedical Engineering, Physics or other related disciplines with a specific background in magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy. The staff scientist candidate will have completed at least one postdoctoral training program and the postdoctoral fellow will be a new graduate seeking a first postdoctoral position. Experience with in vivo cardiovascular and cancer imaging of experimental small animals (mice, rats, rabbits, etc.) is required with either or both clinical (1.5-3T) and high field (4.7-11.7T) experimental MRI platforms, along with coil design and fabrication experience. Pulse programming expertise is highly valued. Experience with clinical research and patient imaging is a plus. Opportunities exist for participation in multiple ongoing NIH-sponsored projects including but not limited to:

  • The development and testing of nanoparticle-based approaches for the MRI and related nanotherapy of cardiovascular diseases, cancer, arthritis, and acute kidney disease to detect, treat, and monitor unstable atheroma and acute myocardial infarction. MRI and MRS will be used to define nanoparticle delivery and concentration, to detect and follow disease progress and response to therapies targeted at inflammatory signaling pathways such as NFkB, JAK/STAT, JNK and others. Design and testing of novel contrast agents for molecular imaging is featured, as well as design of novel algorithms and pulse sequences for tissue characterization and elucidation of organ pathophysiology.

The selected candidate is expected to work independently, with other lab members, and under general supervision of collaborating PI(s), in concert with the Principal Investigator to move the project(s) forward effectively. The selected candidate may be responsible for the following activities: develop and implement research strategies based on thorough and rigorous literature reviews; develop and modify research protocols; manage data entry and storage; prepare research protocols, reports, abstracts, and manuscripts; attend international meetings; mentor junior members of the lab and students in imaging methodologies.
