Department Communication and Brand Management Website Editor (post level 12)

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Act as editor of the University of the Free State’s website.
  • Act as gate-keeper for the quality of the content on the UFS website.
  • Plan, write and upload content for pages of the website by agreed deadlines.
  • Update and publish the official timetable and calendar on the website.
  • Update and publish photos on the landing pages of designated website pages.
  • Upload and publish designated printed publications on the website.
  • Upload, publish and maintain the photo galleries on designated website pages.
  • Participate in the department's Newsdesk by sourcing and writing articles about the university with regard to the website and other communication platforms of the University of the Free State.
  • Source and write general articles about dedicated and assigned topics for other communication platforms of the University of the Free State.
  • Act as back-up on other communication platforms in the Unit for Social Media and Website Content, should the need arise.
  • Perform general administrative office duties as delegated, including report-writing.
  • Inherent requirements:

    • Relevant diploma or post-school qualification in Journalism or Media.
    • Two (2) years' relevant experience.

    Required competencies:

    • Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to function with ease in the University's richly diverse working environment.
    • Excellent writing skills.
    • Knowledge of and experience in Adobe Photoshop or GIMP.
    • Computer skills in MS Word and PowerPoint.
    • Able to use a camera to take photos as referred in the duties and responsibilities.
    • Photo-editing skills (still and video cameras).
    • Problem-solving skills.
    • Creative and innovative thinking in a news-sourcing environment.
    • Presentation skills.
    • Ability to take initiative.
    • Ability to prioritise.

     

    Recommendations:

    • Two (2) years' relevant experience in producing website content.
    • Experience in working with a website-content management system.

     

    Assumption of duties:
    As soon as possible.
