The University of Queensland Diamantina Institute

The University of Queensland Diamantina Institute was established in 2007 as the sixth research institute of The University of Queensland. The aim of the Institute is to develop a better understanding of the molecular and cellular basis of disease, and to translate that understanding into practical outcomes for patients. Based at the Translational Research Institute (TRI) at the Princess Alexandra Hospital teaching campus in Brisbane, the Institute has more than 300 researchers and students who work closely with clinicians in the areas of cancer, immunology and genomic medicine.

 

The role

The primary purpose of this position is to support the successful operation of nanoparticle immunotherapy projects in the Professor Thomas laboratory, including oversight and scientific management of academic and industry collaborations involving new research initiatives as well as operational research management support of day-to-day activities. The position will be responsible for research project design, priority setting, management and delivery of research projects plus monitoring and reporting of the research in order to maximise outcomes and achieve milestones within required timeframes.

 

The person

Applicants should possess a PhD in Immunology, practical laboratory experience in cellular and in vivo immunology, evidence of a contribution to research through publication of scholarly papers in the international literature and presentation of scientific work at international meetings, at least five years relevant work experience in a relevant discipline e.g. dendritic cells, autoimmune disease, vaccines including cancer vaccines, nanopharmacology.

Applicants should also have high level scientific communication for the purposes of publication, reporting, presentations and communicating with internal and external stakeholders to the organisation, understanding of intellectual property, commercialization and contracts in a research context, knowledge of the use of a wide range of computer applications in a network environment (particularly Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint) in a large to medium sized organisation.

Experience in managing research projects to produce high impact outcomes including within a commercial (biotech) environment, high level organisational and time management skills including flexibility and adaptability to handle competing work demands and maintain consistently high standards; demonstrated leadership qualities with the ability to work autonomously with minimal direction and to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team; Ability to deal with a wide range of people in challenging situations with integrity, discretion and sensitivity; A commitment to productivity and success of the research team.

 

Remuneration

This is a full time, 12 month fixed term appointment at 1 FTE - HEW Level 7. The remuneration package will be in the range $81,883.65 - $89,559.15 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 9.5% (total package will be in the range $89,662.60 - $98,067.27 p.a.).
