The new professor is expected to conduct innovative research in agricultural landscape and ecosystem analysis and modelling. The position requires an established record of research on mathematical systems theory, stochastic and non-linear systems, and of theories and models of spatio-temporally dynamic systems. A profound understanding of biotic and abiotic interactions in agricultural landscapes as well as experience with integrated modelling across disciplines and scales will be required. An excellent record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and of acquired project funding in the research field is expected.

The position will be located at ZALF in Müncheberg, close to Berlin. The successful candidate will lead the newly established Research Platform Models, a role for which relevant leadership experiences are essential. The new professor is expected to contribute to teaching bachelor’s and master’s students at the University of Potsdam for two hours per week each semester. The expected research activities should enhance collaboration between ZALF and the Institute of Biochemistry and Biology with its Functional Ecology and Evolution Focus Area at the University of Potsdam and strengthen their scientific excellence.

Prerequisites for the application are a doctoral degree and a record of research equivalent to the German “Habilitation” (post-doctoral dissertation).

The joint professorship is being filled under the Jülich Model, with a teaching obligation of at least 2 hours per week at the University of Potsdam.

The following application requirements for professors must be documented in accordance with Section 41 of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act (Brandenburgisches Hochschulgesetz, BbgHG): a completed university degree, pedagogical aptitude, and a special ability for scientific work, as is typically documented by a dissertation project; comprehensive competences in science management and additional scholarly achievements as evidenced by a Habilitation (post-doctoral dissertation), a junior professorship or work as a research associate at an institution of higher education or an extramural research institution, or scholarly activity in the private sector, or in a similar social field, whether in Germany or abroad. The appointment procedure is conducted in accordance with Section 40 of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act.

The University strives for a balanced gender ratio at all levels. Severely disabled applicants will be given preferential consideration in the event of equal qualification. We expressly invite applications from people with migration backgrounds.
