Details

A stent is a metal or plastic tube inserted into the lumen of an anatomic vessel or duct to keep the passageway open, and stenting is the placement of a stent. Stents can be used for different purposes, from expandable coronary, vascular and biliary stents, to simple plastic stents used to allow the flow of urine between kidney and bladder.

The aim of this project is to demonstrate an electronic stent that can be utilised in hyperthermia therapy, light and photodynamic therapy, electrostimulation, drug delivery, and sense physical parameters and physiological analytes.

The successful student will form part of a multidisciplinary team and will be supervised by Dr. Ali K. Yetisen based in the Institute of Translational Medicine (www.itmbirmingham.co.uk) and the School of Chemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham.

 

Funding Notes

Students must have an undergraduate degree or master’s degree in engineering, physics, chemistry, materials science or a closely related subject.

University of Birmingham scholarships are available for exceptional UK/EU students. Self-funded international students are welcome to apply this post. Applications will be evaluated on an on-going basis until the position is filled.
