Job Details
Birmingham University is well-known for its research into finite groups, group geometries, Lie theory and representation theory. The School of Mathematics has a vibrant and productive postgraduate environment that promotes research at the highest level.
A finite group G is nearly simple if its generalized Fitting subgroup is quasisimple. The character values of G encode much of its structure and are also crucial in many applications. Two open problems of interest are:
- Character values of classes which have large centralizers.
- The proportion of zeros in the character table.
