Chair and Director, UQ Cyber Security
Job Number: 502915

The University of Queensland (UQ) is one of Australia’s leading teaching and research universities, and ranks among the world’s top universities according to several key independent rankings. More than 52,000 current students study at UQ, which has won more national teaching awards than any other Australian university. UQ’s research has global impact, delivered by an interdisciplinary community of more than 1500 researchers across our six faculties, eight globally recognised research institutes and 100+ research centres.

The University is seeking an inaugural Director to lead an institution-wide, multi-faculty initiative to address the technical, social and policy dimensions of global cyber security. This broad, interdisciplinary centre will include teaching, research and private and public sector engagement. The purpose of the initiative is to deepen and co-ordinate UQ’s existing capability by bringing together relevant areas from across the University to form a world-leading cyber security enterprise.

The Director should bring extensive skills and experience in multi-disciplinary research, translation and engagement in cyber security, as well as the capacity to develop a comprehensive educational strategy that will deliver undergraduate, postgraduate and professional development courses.

Evidence of international academic leadership and standing in cyber security should be supported by an active research profile, ability to build and lead in a start-up environment, and strong engagement and liaison skills.

A very attractive, market based remuneration package is on offer. For a confidential discussion, contact Bill Kett or Brad Beumer at Heidrick & Struggles on +61 3 9012 3049.
