Job Details
This post is funded by the Cancer Research UK Grand Challenge programme that aims to determine which cancer require treatment and which can be safely monitored.
The project, called “PRECISION”, is based around breast cancers (called DCIS) that have not yet begun to behave aggressively. Several groups from the UK, Netherlands and the USA are working together on this problem. The specific sub-project associated with this post involves the processing and analysis of blood samples provided by women with DCIS, to find out whether these samples show evidence of cancer using state-of-the-art DNA sequencing.
These “liquid biopsies” are increasingly used in the care of cancer patients, but the methods involved are not yet routine and require development locally. The post would be suitable for someone with excellent organisational and technical skills. Training would be provided for the latter, if necessary.
To assist in research (by carrying out data collection or analyses) to create knowledge through providing research support for projects and research groups.
- Degree or equivalent in relevant subject area ie., Biomedical Sciences
- Practical experience of applying the relevant skills and techniques
- Ability to analyse information and communicate effectively
- Ability to access and organise resources successfully
Closing date:13th March 2018
