Job Purpose
  • As a Fellow (Evaluation), you will principally contribute to securing and delivering evaluation and other applied research projects. You will also contribute to the development of related activities in HSMC and the forming of evaluation partnerships with other departments within the University and external organisations.
  • To secure funding for evaluation and applied research projects including contributing to the development, submission and presentation of relevant bids and proposals.
  • To contribute to evaluation and applied research projects on behalf of HSMC, working alongside and in collaboration with a range of employed and associate colleagues, and where appropriate in partnership with other university departments and partner organisations.
  • To participate in knowledge dissemination activities that share learning from individual projects and from across a group of evaluation and applied research projects.
  • To contribute to the strengthening of evaluation and applied research capacity and skills within HSMC and support in the development of related strategies.
  • To provide advice to colleagues on relevant theories and methodologies to support high quality and innovative research.
  • To promote the work of HSMC and the broader University both nationally and internationally.
  • To contribute to the creation and nurturing of local and national networks relevant to specific areas of healthcare policy and management and to use these to identify forthcoming opportunities for HSMC development, teaching, and research activity.
  • To identify opportunities for seminars and conferences and arrange programmes to meet these opportunities.
  • To contribute to the intellectual, social and organisational life of HSMC by active participation in relevant HSMC programmes, regular faculty meetings and staff development activities.
  • To contribute to income generation and work load planning.

 

Person Specification

  • First degree or equivalent professional qualification; a Masters / PhD in a relevant topic area (desirable)
  • Extensive experience of undertaking evaluation and applied research in health and care and in the dissemination of research findings and learning.
  • Qualitative and quantitative research skills, and experience of using routine data for applied research and evaluation purposes.
  • Professional networks within practice and policy fields that are likely to generate opportunities for evaluation and applied research projects.
  • Ability to demonstrate understanding of methodologies for evaluation and applied research and how to implement these in practice.
  • Excellent presentation skills, both verbal andwith an ability to communicate effectively with research study participants, commissioners of projects, and wider stakeholders (including academic colleagues)
  • Collaborative and flexible approach to work and excellent inter-personal skills
  • An awareness of personal strengths and weaknesses in leading projects and an ability to work reflexively
