Duties:

  • Responsible for teaching and learning of Human Geography at under- and postgraduate level.
  • Research in a relevant field of specialty.
  • Supervise postgraduate students.

    •  

    Inherent requirements:

    Lecturer:

  • A master’s degree in Geography.
  • Proven experience in the presentation of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
  • Proven evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication in accredited journals.
  • A good academic record.

    •  

    Senior Lecturer:

  • A doctorate in Geography.
  • Proven experience in the supervision of graduated masters’ students.
  • Proven experience in the presentation of papers/posters at national scholarly conference.
  • Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship.
  • An NRF rating or demonstrate the potential for obtaining an NRF rating.
  • Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society or committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels.
  • A good academic record must be provided.

    Required competencies:

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) and, the ability to function well in the university’s richly diverse working environment as personnel and research manager.

    Recommendations:

    Qualification and experience in teaching on tertiary level.

    Lecturer:

    • Willingness to enroll to enroll for a doctoral degree in Geography at the first available opportunity, if not yet attainted by the time of the appointment.
    • Proven research record of relevant publications in national accredited journals.
