Senior Lecturer

Duties:

  • Teach and research in Construction and Project Management areas and/or Quantity Surveying areas and related areas.
  • Compile and manage programmme accreditation documentation in consultation with the department head or professional accreditation bodies.
  • Serve on university, national and international bodies/councils/committees.
  • Develop, improve and market the Department’s programmes in consultation with Head of the Department.
  • Perform administrative tasks.
  • Provide research supervision to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Maintain links with other tertiary institutions.
  • Coordinate departmental research.
  • Conduct research, deliver papers and publish articles.
  •  

    Inherent requirements:

    • PhD in Quantity Surveying and Master’s degree in a Built Environment field, preceded by an honours or equivalent degree in Building Science/ Quantity Surveying.
    • Proven experience in the presentation of papers/posters at national scholarly conferences.
    • Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship.
    • An NRF rating or demonstrate potential for obtaining an NRF rating.
    • Proven experience in supervision of graduated master’s students.
    • A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journal.
    • Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society or committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels.

     

  • Good understanding of the theory and application of construction management and/or quantity surveying (and general construction industry).
  • Ability to facilitate learning at tertiary level including assessments.
  • Ability to conduct and supervise research.
  • Good work ethics and the ability to work well with members of the department and students.
  • Good presentation, oral and written skills.
  • Ability to develop and improve learning material.
  • Ability to participate in administrative duties as well as departmental third income stream initiatives and community engagements.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) and, the ability to function well in the university’s richly diverse working environment.

    Recommendations

    • Relevant professional registration or ability to demonstrate registration can be achieved with reasonable time.
