Duties and responsibilities:

  • Take a leading role in research related to agricultural produce marketing (especially derivative markets) and the economics of crop productions.
  • Present courses in agricultural marketing, strategic marketing and agribusiness management.
  • Develop and present short learning course (SAFEX Workshops).
  • Synthesise knowledge aimed at the production of scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Communicate research findings at scientific conferences.
  • Source funding for research from international and national funding organisations.
  • Actively participate in the professional community.
  • Actively participate in the agricultural community.
  • Supervise postgraduate students involved in the economics of crop production.
  • Actively do research on grain markets and communicate the research in the agricultural community through mediums such as magazines, radio, conferences and producer organisations.
  • Present the fundamentals of grain marketing (SAFEX) to students.

    Inherent requirements:

    Junior Lecturer:

  • An honour’s degree in a relevant agricultural field.
  • A good academic record.
  • Certified SAFEX trader.
  • Lecturer:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant agricultural field.
  • Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
  • Provide evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication, ideally in an accredited journal.
  • A good academic record.
  • Certified SAFEX trader.
  •  

    Required competencies:

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to function well in the university’s richly diverse working environment.
  • Proven experience in agricultural commodity marketing, more specific grain marketing on derivative markets.
  • Broad agricultural (especially crop production) practical knowledge.
  • Able to communicate to students within the Double Medium Language Policy of Agricultural Programme at UFS.
