Junior Lecturer: Teaching Practice

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate modules in Teaching Prctice.
  • Consult with students and cooperate with staff.
  • Coordinate academic and administrative tasks related to the module Teaching Practice.
  • Conduct research and produce quality research outputs.
  • Contribute to curriculum development in the field of Teaching Practice.
  • Support students’ academic advising needs (within consultation hours) as defined by the faculty and the UFS.
  • Assist in the placement, supervision and assessment of student teachers for the work-integrated learning purpose.
  • Market the teaching profession in schools.
  •  

    Inherent requirements:

  • An Honour’s degree in Education.
  • Proven experience in the delivery of oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
  • A good academic record.
  • IT specialisation at undergraduate level. 
  •  

    Required competencies:

  • Teaching experience in life skill, accountting, business studies and/or economics.
  • Knowledge of- and the ability to use Learning Management Systems (LMS) for teaching and assessment.
  • Familiarity with inclusive pedagogic practices and alternative assessment strategies.
  • Good research skills and writing abilities.
  • Sound interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Good computer literacy skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team. 
  •  

    Recommendations:

    Willingness to enrol for a Master’s degree in Education at the first available opportunity, if not yet attained by the time of the appointment. Teaching experience in school context, a higher education environment or in Teacher Education. Experience in community engagement. Experience in organising conference related activities A valid driver’s license. Experience in the placement, supervision and assessment of student teachers for work-integrated learning purpose.

    1 April 2018.
