Research Fellow in Applied Health
Do you have a background in applied health research?
Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities?
We wish to recruit a Research Fellow to work on a project called the Campaign to Reduce Opioid Prescribing (CROP). The place of opioids in the management of chronic, non-cancer pain is limited. Even so their use is escalating, leading to concerns that patients are prescribed opioids inappropriately. The Campaign to Reduce Opioid Prescribing (CROP) is a feedback intervention intended to reduce opioid prescribing. 316 practices across the ten CCGs received bimonthly feedback reports on their opioid prescribing from April 2016 to March 2017. The CROP evaluation is funded by the Royal College of General Practitioners through its Scientific Foundation Board scheme; its overall aim is to evaluate how general practices perceive and act upon an enhanced feedback intervention to reduce opioid prescribing. In order to undertake this role, you will have an understanding of NHS services particularly primary care, and experience of managing research projects.
You should be familiar with NHS ethics and governance arrangements. It is essential that you are comfortable and effective in communicating with people at all levels within the NHS, academia and the third sector as maintaining good relations with research partners and developing new contacts is a central element of this post. You should have a high level of awareness of issues affecting primary care prescribing and general practice demands. The project involves a diverse range of activities including recruitment of practice staff, including general practitioners, practice managers and practice pharmacists, qualitative interviews and use of the Normalisation Process Theory to guide a thematic analysis of interview data.
