Job Details

The Aga Khan University’s Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations (‘the Institute’) based in London, United Kingdom is looking to recruit a Research Associate for its European Research Council-funded Digital Humanities project (KITAB). The incumbent will undertake and support work on a corpus of Arabic texts within the project and will also engage in bibliographic research on Arabic books. The responsibilities of the role will also involve project coordination and administrative work to support the Principal Investigator (PI) in effective delivery of the project’s objectives.

 

Responsibilities

  • Undertake and support work on a corpus of Arabic texts; including annotation of texts
  • Bibliographic research relating to the Arabic textual tradition and related fields
  • Act as project coordinator and liaise with all participants, including subcontractors, partners, and users
  • Organise group meetings with participants, as required, take notes and follow up on action items
  • Provide general administrative support to the PI
  • Draft correspondence including funding applications, if required
  • Assist with tracking expenses for the grant

 

Requirements

  • MA or PhD in Humanities or social sciences or a subject relevant to the KITAB project
  • Proficiency in reading Arabic
  • Demonstrated experience or interest in related work
  • Excellent organisation and numeracy skills with ability to work on budgets
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office packages including MS Word, Excel and project management tools
  • Willingness to learn new skills to support development of the project
  • Intellectual curiosity
  • Ability to work in teams
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English
