Temporary Advisor: Learning Technologies

(Post level 8)

(Two year contract appointment)

Duties

  • Facilitate the meaningful integration of learning technologies in programmes and modules in the FMHS through the provision of support for quality learning and teaching, with a focus on the use of learning technologies in a blended learning approach;
  • Collaboration with colleagues on learning technologies related projects and initiatives that seek to enhance learning and teaching activities within the FMHS;
  • Provide expert advice on best practices in the use of technology to enhance learning and teaching through remaining up to date on trends and the most recent research in the field;
  • Design, implement and present relevant and appropriate faculty development initiatives to encourage and strengthen the use of technology in learning and teaching;
  • Assist with the design, implementation and facilitation of specific M Phil in Health Professions Education modules;
  • Contribute to the strategic leadership of the learning technologies portfolio in the FMHS. This includes assisting with the identification, development and implementation of strategic foci, opportunities, and actions;
  • Work with role players in the University specifically the Centre for Learning Technologies and IT to ensure alignment of Faculty initiatives with University priority projects;
  • Ensure that the integrity of using learning technologies for teaching, learning and assessment is intact by contributing to the development of relevant procedures, and protocols;
  • Take leadership in designing and conducting the necessary evaluation of initiatives in the FMHS;
  • Engage in research and other scholarly activities in the field;
  • Manage the CHPE website;

 

Job Requirements

  • A relevant Masters Degree such as an M Phil in Higher Education or Health Professions Education;
  • A minimum of two years' relevant teaching experience at a higher education institution, ideally within the health sciences AND/OR experience in staff development in Higher Education with regards to Educational/ Learning Technologies/ Blended Learning approaches;
  • Excellent computer skills as well as experience and proficiency in the use and support of a Learning Management System as well as other learning technologies;
  • Experience in the design and development of online courses;
  • Excellent verbal, presentation and communication skills;
  • Strong writing ability;
  • Strong interpersonal skills in the context of a team;
  • Project management experience;
  • Digital design experience (e.g. videos, SCORMs, podcasts, interactive digital content);
  • Proficiency in relevant software (e.g. LMSs like Moodle, Office suite, Adobe suite, Camtasia Studio, iSpring and Articulate Storyline).

 

Recommendation

  • Qualification in an Educational or Educational Technology field;
  • Qualification in the Health Sciences;
  • A PhD;
  • Knowledge of more than one of South Africa’s official languages;
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluation;
  • Experience in educational research;
  • Experience in managing a learning designer and learning design processes;
  • Experience in designing apps;
  • Exprience in the development and research of Open Educational Resources (OERs)
