Job Details

Are you an outstanding individual with passion and enthusiasm about teaching in corporate, commercial and/or banking law?

Do you have the ambition to play a significant role in the further development of the School’s Centre for Business Law and Practice?

Do you want to be part of a thriving law school in a Russell Group University?

Are you an experienced academic leader or an outstanding legal practitioner looking for a challenging senior leadership position?

The School of Law at Leeds is a successful, dynamic law school strongly committed to achieving excellence in both student education and research. We were ranked 8th overall in the UK for the quality of our research in REF 2014 and 4th for the impact of our research on society and have continued to invest to strengthen further our research centres. We are equally proud of our results in the National Student Survey over the last few years and student education lies at the heart of all we do. We have invested significantly in our Centre for Business Law and Practice over the last few years and now wish to strengthen the Centre further as a pinnacle of teaching and practice oriented excellence.

We are looking to appoint to a number of Chairs in corporate, commercial and/or banking law to strengthen both the research and educational excellence of the Centre. The core purpose of those appointed to these teaching and scholarship roles will be to provide leadership in the further development of the School as a centre for education in these areas, based upon an excellent record in teaching and scholarship and the ability to promote pedagogical enhancement and innovative educational practices; engaging in curricula development and contributing to the School’s commitment to research based developments in education.

The posts are open to those with expertise in the field of corporate, commercial and banking law. Applications are welcome from those whose interests lie in commercial law (broadly conceived), but the School particularly wishes to build on its existing strengths in corporate, banking, competition, dispute resolution and the private law of international commerce. We are seeking high calibre individuals able to carry forward the vision of the School of Law with strong teaching and scholarship profiles or professional experience. While experience of teaching in university environment is desirable, we particularly encourage applications from those who have had experience of legal practice in commercial law (broadly conceived) who may not have previously worked in a university.

More generally, the successful candidate will be expected to enhance the School’s teaching activities and culture, its connections with practice, working with colleagues to build its international profile and standing. These appointments to a major role in a dynamic and growing School of Law offer considerable potential for personal initiative and fulfilment.
