Job Details
The research opportunities that are foreseen are in the UK, the USA and China. This post reports to the Business Director and will have responsibility for developing and leading and managing a small team of professionals, including a Business Development Manager and Project Officer. Experience and wide knowledge of the railway industry and has the credibility to be taken seriously by senior staff in partner organizations. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to liaise effectively with stakeholders in the UK and international rail industry at very senior levels.
Be able to demonstrate the ability to negotiate suitable partnerships and to develop and progress strategic educational and research initiatives with high-level UK and international stakeholders.
Be able to demonstrate the ability to build relationships outside of the centre and the school. The individual will need to be able to influence more widely across the university with academics and professional services functions.
- Able to plan and organise effectively, e.g. programme for development of initiatives.
- Plan use of time to maximize the effectiveness of the initiatives.
- To interpret and identify the implications of railway industry developments for the University and to make recommendations proactively for how to react to them.
- To be able to think creatively about possible educational and research opportunities, and to make a major contribution to policy development within BCRRE.
- To be able to manage the conflicting pressures of longer term planning with short-term demands.
- Ability to make decisions independently and in negotiations with potential partners and in contribution to the development of strategic plans.
- Experience in financial and human resource management.
- High level technical expertise in a range of railway engineering topics, and ability to communicate at a high scientific / engineering level with potential partners.
- An understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes within BCRRE across University.
- The ability to represent BCRRE to a range of senior management staff within the University to develop the business plans for new initiatives.
- To be able to exercise a substantial degree of independent responsibility on behalf of BCRRE and the University.
- A degree in relevant discipline and significant experience of the UK and international railway industries.
