Job Details

  •  A doctorate in New Testament, Early Christianity or a related subject
  •  Excellent ability in Koine Greek
  •  Experience of working with New Testament manuscripts and manuscript catalogues
  •  Familiarity with a wide range of modern languages
  •  Experience of working with digital corpora and databases
  •  Ability to work to an exceptional level of accuracy with attention to detail
  •  Ability to communicate complex information clearly
  •  Good written and spoken English, with experience of academic publication
  •  Willingness to work as part of a team and to follow instructions as well as to work independently when required
  •  Good time management skills and the ability to co-ordinate own work with others to avoid conflict or duplication of effort
  • To create and contribute to the creation of knowledge by undertaking a specified range of activities as part of the ERC-funded CATENA research project and pursuing research related to the activity of the project, located in the Institute for Textual Scholarship and Electronic Editing (ITSEE) in the School of Philosophy, Theology and Religion at the University of Birmingham.

    This Research Fellow will be responsible for making a new catalogue and database of Greek New Testament Commentary manuscripts. Starting from existing catalogues and other electronic and printed resources, the post holder will develop a system for identifying and describing relevant manuscripts. They will liaise with holding institutions to acquire further information, which may include the acquisition of images. They will also assist with the development of methods of identifying different types of commentary and groups of manuscripts. The post holder will work closely with the Principal Investigator and other members of the project in order to keep them aware of the development of the research. They will produce academic publications arising from their work on the project and promote the work of the project at conferences.
