Cancer Immunology in the Institute of Immunology and Immunotherapy comprises several research groups with an international reputation in the molecular basis of cancer, with expertise in immunology, gene therapy, molecular virology, viral immunology, cell signalling, immunotherapy and clinical trials.

This research technician post is funded by the MRC for 12 months. The post holder will make a significant contribution to the research group led by Dr Steve Lee by helping to develop immunotherapeutic strategies against cancer, principally using genetic modification of T lymphocytes to target them to markers selectively expressed on the tumour vasculature. The project will entail working closely with other members of the lab and collaborators to develop methods and to deliver high quality research using a variety of techniques. The post-holder will also be responsible for taking a lead role in the day to day running of the lab, including the safety and maintenance of equipment and stocks within the lab.BTEC (Higher), BSc or equivalent in a Biological Science.

In-depth practical knowledge of technical and scientific methods in a wide range of experimental methodologies including flow cytometry, immunohistology and/or cell culture. Molecular cloning and experience with viral vectors for gene transfer would also be an advantage.

  • Must be able to use initiative, work independently and communicate scientific results to the other members of the group
  • Highly organised, conscientious, punctual and shows attention to detail.
  • Ability to acquire techniques quickly and accurately
