Job Details

Are you looking to apply your skills to the development of new synthetic methods for the synthesis of important aromatic amines?

As Research Fellow in Synthetic Chemistry you will join a 3-year EPSRC-funded project (awarded to Professors Steve Marsden and John Plane) focused on developing new radical-based methods for the direct synthesis of aromatic amines.

You will assist the Investigators in developing a suite of new reactions for direct functionalisation of aromatic compounds based upon the chemistry of aminium radicals. You will also use computational methods (DFT) to both inform the design of new processes and understand the outcomes.

You will have a PhD in synthetic chemical methodology, extensive experience in the use of modern spectroscopic methods (e.g. two-dimensional NMR, IR, mass spectrometry) to characterise synthetic intermediates and experience in the execution of DFT calculations of reaction profiles, or a willingness and interest to learn these techniques.
