The School for Policy Studies at the University of Bristol wishes to recruit a Lecturer that is Co-funded by The Hadley Trust. In line with the strategic development of our research and teaching programmes we are seeking to fill this post with a high calibre individual who will contribute to a dynamic, ambitious and collegial environment that is at the forefront of intellectual developments within our interdisciplinary School.  We have a longstanding relationship with the Hadley Trust which established the Hadley Centre for Adoption and Foster Care Research in the School. The successful candidate will be expected to evidence a strong commitment to teaching, research and administration.

The School for Policy Studies leads in its fields of research. In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) 80% of research in social work and social policy was rated world-leading or internationally excellent (Social Work and Social Policy), and our work in exercise, nutrition and health was ranked best in the country (Sport and Exercise Sciences, Leisure and Tourism). Our undergraduate programmes are consistently top rated in national league tables most recently 1st in Guardian in 2018, therefore the appointee will have an aptitude to teach to the highest standards at all levels. Specific contributions are likely to include teaching core modules on our undergraduate programme in Childhood Studies, and research methods.

Candidates should have research expertise and interests in the areas of children, families, care, and adoption and to improving outcomes for looked-after or previously looked after children; a disciplinary background in psychology, social work or social policy; knowledge of the care system and children adopted from care; a record of publications judged to be 3* or 4* quality by Research Excellence Framework (REF) standards and eligible for inclusion in the next REF; a demonstrable plan for high quality research that complements and extends the School research agenda and that of the Hadley Trust; ability to gain external research funding as PI or Co-I; and a completed PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline by the post start date.

The post is open ended and available from 1 August 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is full time, however the School is open to requests for working part time/job share.

 

The post is located on Pathway One and will be appointed at either Profile Level b (Lecturer, grade J) or Profile Level c (Lecturer, grade K) of the University’s Academic Pathways depending on relevant experience of the successful candidate.
