SCHOOL OF LANGUAGES AND CULTURES
The School of Languages and Cultures is one of the largest Schools of language instruction in Australia with over 45 academic staff.
The School teaches Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Spanish, as well as Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, to students in the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of International Studies, the university-wide concurrent Diploma in Languages, the Diploma of Arts, and dual degree programs.
At postgraduate level the School offers two NAATI-accredited Masters programs in Translation and Interpreting (one in Japanese and one in Chinese) and a large Masters program in Applied Linguistics. Staff research and supervise PhD students in a diverse range of fields relating to languages and cultures.
The role
The primary role of the successful applicant is to provide guidance and assistance to School staff engaged in digital humanities research, and to lead in the development of technologies to support the research programs of staff more broadly in the School, as well as carry out a program of independent research activity as proposed in the application.
The person
Applicants should possess a PhD focused on the use of technology in linguistic or cultural research. You should also have experience in the use of digital-humanities-related tools with a demonstrated understanding of open source and proprietary research software packages. A collaborative approach to research, excellent analytic skills, very good writing abilities and the ability to consult with researchers from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds is essential.

Remuneration
This is a full-time fixed term appointment at Research Academic level A. The remuneration package will be in the range $81,546 - $87,535 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $95,409 - $102,416 p.a.)
