FACULTY OF ECONOMIC AND MANAGEMENT SCIENCES
DEPUTY DEAN: RESEARCH AND POSTGRADUATE STUDIES (TERM APPOINTMENT)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will have academic, managerial and administrative responsibilities and, as part of the Faculty Management Team, will be responsible for leading, promoting and co-ordinating research and postgraduate education in the Faculty. The goal of the position is to establish and maintain recognition of the Faculty as a national and international centre of excellence in research and knowledge production. He/she will also be required to chair Faculty committees related to these core functions and to stand in for the Dean as required.

The position is available for a term appointment of four years.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Current appointment or suitability for appointment as Professor or Associate Professor;
  • Proven track record in research with evidence of continuous productivity;
  • NRF rating.

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Proof of on-going research excellence;
  • A successful track record in postgraduate supervision, lecturing at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and community engagement;
  • Appropriate experience in liaising with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Appropriate communication and language skills;
  • Proven strategic development, planning and implementation skills;
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Managerial and leadership skills.

 

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • Managerial experience relevant to the higher education environment;
  • Demonstrable administrative skills;
  • Demonstrable skills in change and conflict management.
 

PLEASE NOTE: Candidates will be required to do a presentation to the Faculty and to the Appointments Committee on their vision for the Faculty.

 

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
