Temporary Data Administrator(Post level 10.1) (One year contract appointment)(Ref. TGB12/101/0318)-

Responsible for the management of the data entry unit. Prioritises and plans workload of data entry tasks in compliance with schedules, deadlines, protocol and policy. Reviews and analyses unit production.

Duties

  • Establishing workload priorities, procedures, work assignments and resource requirements in consultation with clinical teams;
  • Maintaining, reviewing and updating data entry procedures manuals, coding instructions and other resource materials for the Centre;
  • Conferring with clinical and technical staff to design and create data entry programs and/or data entry screens;
  • Representing the data capture team at meetings;
  • Training new staff on data entry platforms and office procedures;
  • Reviewing, verifying, coding, entering and reconciling data and generating routine and specialised reports;
  • Coordinating data validation and corrections, and doing data validation and corrections as required;
  • Coordinating preparation of documents and generating, printing and distribution of barcodes for studies;
  • Assisting data managers with record linking of various data sources as well as verifying record linking done by data managers;
  • Organising and monitoring work to maintain schedules and quality and quantity standards as well as assigning and reviewing work;
  • Making decisions regarding hiring, evaluation, promotion and termination of employees, and making related recommendations;
  • Establishing and implementing attendance and performance standards;
  • Mentoring all data capture technicians to achieve autonomy and career development;
  • Fulfilling data unit administrative duties such as receiving and filing all leave forms, timesheets, performance appraisals, job descriptions and personal development plans for the data capture team;
  • Overseeing filing of study documents in a data storeroom and sorting, filing and packing of completed studies for off-site storage as well as keeping an index of packed documents;
  • Managing off-site document storage with Data Warehouse, including retrieval and destruction of documentation.

 

Job Requirements

  • Post-matric qualification;
  • At least two years’ work experience in a research or academic environment, or both;
  • Two years’ experience entering data and verifying and proofing entered data, with one year’s experience reconciling complex data entry discrepancies;
  • At least two years’ people management experience;
  • Excellent computer literacy (MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;
  • RedCap);
  • Advanced skills in the Microsoft products Word and Excel;
  • Knowledge of computer data entry tools, platforms, procedures and methods;
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision and training.Skill in reviewing, proofing and verifying data.Skill in creating routine and specialised reports measuring data entry productivity and quality.Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing in English and Afrikaans with particular emphasis on communication with colleagues not well versed in data.

  • Familiarity with various data entry platforms:Knowledge of HPTN-071 data systems.Knowledge of MRC CTU data systems.Knowledge of RedCap data systems.Knowledge of MediData Rave data systems.Knowledge of eData data systems.Work experience in research and/or academic environment.
