The role will primarily focus on teaching and research in Dental Materials Science and related biomaterial technologies. The main emphasis on teaching activity will be to help develop and deliver a new postgraduate taught MSc programme in Dental Materials Science, although other teaching across relevant undergraduate courses in dentistry will be expected (Bachelor of Dental Surgery and Hygiene and Therapy). The post holder will also create and disseminate knowledge through initiating and conducting high quality and innovative research, through publication at conferences and in high impact journals.

A further important aspect of this role will be to engage with academics across different Colleges within the University to foster interdisciplinary research. This will include cross-College PhD supervision and the development of innovative research themes for the development of advanced therapeutic medical and dental technologies.

In addition, the role will contribute to the School, College and University through management, leadership, and enterprise activities, as appropriate.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant discipline (most likely materials science or engineering backgrounds) and a strong research record in high quality publications and evidence of contributing to successful grant funding applications. A track record in interdisciplinary research spanning the physical and biological sciences is highly desirable.

The post holder should also demonstrate delivery of high quality research-led teaching and supervision. Candidates will be able to demonstrate a capacity for curriculum development, innovative teaching practice and an ability to mentor and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students.
