    The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences is one of five faculties at the University of Adelaide. Comprised of five schools and a number of disciplines, research centres and institutes, the faculty is focused on education excellence and innovative research in the health sciences.

    Programs taught out of the faculty train medical practitioners: surgeons, dentists, nurses and psychologists and other health professionals. The faculty boasts one of the largest concentrations of leading researchers, academic teachers and clinical titleholders working across the areas of health.

    The Adelaide Medical School encompasses the disciplines of Acute Care Medicine, Adelaide Rural Clinical School, Anatomy and Pathology, General Practice, Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Orthopaedics and Trauma, Paediatrics, Pharmacology, Physiology, Psychiatry and Surgery.  It is one of five schools in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences and is made up of academics, researchers and clinical titleholders.

    The clinical components of the University's undergraduate medical program are taught through the school with activities at four major hospitals in the state. The school offers a vibrant, intellectual environment in which to work. 

    The Visceral Pain Research Group is part of the Centre for Nutrition and Digestive Diseases and is focused on understanding the mechanism of pain originating from visceral organs and identifying novel targets to improve the clinical management of chronic visceral pain. One of the Group's research programs is identifying the pathways in the spinal cord that signal visceral pain into the brain and how changes to these contribute to chronic pain.

    Working under general direction, in this position of the Research Officer will be responsible for the execution of research experiments, the preparation of research data and the provision of technical and administration support to the spinal pathways of the visceral pain program.

     

    Salary:

    (HEO5) $69,262 - $77,057 per annum.

     

    Superannuation:

    An employer contribution of 9.5% applies.

     

    Term of position:

    This fixed-term contract is available immediately for a period of 12 months.

     

    Position requirements

    To be successful you should have:

    • Proficiency in laboratory procedures for medical research
    • Demonstrated experience in laboratory protocols, including qPCR, immunohistochemistry, microscopy and quantitative analysis of data
    • Experience with word processing, spreadsheet software applications, databases and image analysis software
    • Familiarity with laboratory management and safety procedures
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to work well both independently and as a member of a team
