Job Details

Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge?

Do you have a background in palliative care?

Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities?

You will work at the St Gemma’s Academic Unit of Palliative Care (AUPC), University of Leeds to lead and manage two work streams on Improving Health Status and Symptom Experience for People Living with Advanced Cancer which is a 4 year programme funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research. The programme is led by Leeds in collaboration with the Universities of Hull and Bradford. In Yorkshire, over 14,000 people die from advanced cancer each year. In the weeks or months before they die, people with advanced cancer often experience pain, breathlessness or fatigue-exhaustion, which significantly reduce quality of remaining life. Our programme will directly improve the health status and symptom experience of Yorkshire patients living with advanced cancer and support their families. We will achieve this by (1) recognising early those who need help, (2) implementing regular assessment and monitoring of symptoms and other concerns, (3) providing better management of the most challenging symptoms. You will be closely supported by Professor Mike Bennett and other investigators, and will work within the growing research team at the Academic Unit of Palliative Care. A research assistant will be appointed in Leeds to support aspects of one of the work-streams.

To explore the post further or for any queries you may have, please contact: Mike Bennett, St Gemma’s Professor of Palliative Medicine44 (0)113 343 6949 (Lynn Auty, PA), email: m.i.bennett@leeds.ac.uk.
