Job Details

The Department for Educational Development (DED) is a component of the Faculty of Health Sciences, and reports to the Dean of Medical College, working closely with the School of Nursing-and-Midwifery. It is a resource for developing the educational philosophy at FHS, capacity building for AKU faculty, supporting curricular reviews and revisions, and facilitating examinations, test evaluations and evaluation of programmes. It offers certificate courses and Masters degree in Health Professions Education.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

  • Strengthening DED’s vision to develop as a Centre of Excellence in Health Professions Education at AKU, nationally and within the region
  • Strengthening the Master of Health Professions Programme and working with DED faculty towards developing and offering a PhD Programme in HPE
  • Strengthening the DED Research Agenda
  • Leading, supervising and mentoring DED faculty in career guidance, research and for obtaining their doctoral degrees in HPE
  • Developing collaborations and linkages with other entities of AKU and at National and International Levels
  • Becoming an effective educational resource in Undergraduate and Postgraduate Medical & Nursing Education to strengthen and structure curriculum development, teaching / learning, assessments, and initiate innovations in health professions education.

 

Requirements

You should have: 

  • PhD degree in Medical Education/ Education 
  • At least two years’ experience in the field of Medical Education 
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, content Expertise in HPE, leadership and research skills and evidence of published work.
