RF Engineer / Staff Scientist
With nation-wide responsibility for improving the health and well being of all Americans, the Department of Health and Human Services oversees the biomedical research programs of the National Institutes of Health and those of NIH’s research Institutes.
The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, Division of Intramural Research, Laboratory of Functional and Molecular Imaging (LFMI), is currently searching for an outstanding RF Engineer to fill a Staff Scientist vacancy associated with its 11.7 T human MRI system. Primary responsibilities include the development of transmit and receive RF coil arrays for use in human subjects operating at 500 MHz, as well as their associated amplifiers, safety management circuitry, and interface electronics. Secondary responsibilities include the development and maintenance of RF technology for NIH’s 7T human scanners. Active support and collaboration with user groups is expected.
The salary is very competitive and commensurate with experience. A Ph.D. and significant postdoctoral experience developing state of the art RF electronics for high field MRI is essential. Experience performing EM field simulations for high field MRI in humans is also required. In addition, experience operating human MRI scanners is desirable.
LFMI (www.lfmi.ninds.nih.gov) is part of the NIH MRI Research Facility at NIH, which has active programs in clinical as well as research imaging of the brain and of the heart. Other equipment available in the NIH MRI Research Facility includes a number of 3 T human scanners and 4.7 T, 7 T, 9.4 T and 11.7 T animal scanners. One of the major goals of LFMI is to extend the state of the art in MRI of brain in both human and animal models.
