This is an opportunity for an experienced Events Manager to organise a College programme of high-profile events. From major national and international conferences to VIP events, this job requires a tenacious, dynamic, highly organised individual with an eye for detail.

Reporting to the Head of Marketing and Communications in the College of Arts and Law, the role will cover a wide variety of tasks, essential to organising large scale and high-profile events, and presenting the College at its very best to a variety of local, national and international audiences.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in event organisation/management, enabling them to deliver a wide programme of events based on agreed briefs and in line with College priorities.The post holder will promote a positive image of the College and its constituent schools, institutes and research centres to a wide range of stakeholders including conference delegates, the media, business and industry, funding councils, and the local community. The post holder will be required to use their judgement in solving problems and to work effectively with staff at all levels of seniority within the College and the University.

As a member of the College of Arts and Law Marketing and Communications Team, the Events Manager will also be responsible for production and delivery of internal communications for the College. The Events Manager will be expected to deputise for the Head of Marketing and Communications as required. Person Specification

 

Essential:

  • Good undergraduate degree, or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Significant experience in event organisation/management
  • Considerable project management experience with a successful track record of delivering complex projects within timescale and budget
  • Proven financial management skills including the ability to understand complex budgets and devise budget monitoring system
  • Experience of stakeholder management and maintaining effective relationships with a broad spectrum of people
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise and schedule workloads in the face of conflicting demands, meeting strict deadlines whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to use initiative to make sound judgement calls
  • Excellent problem solving skills when under pressure
  • Willingness to learn and understand the direction/vision of the College and how this may impact events
  • Knowledge of the environmental, economic and political factors impacting on Higher Education
  • Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages
  • Flexibility to work out of hours as required
  • Line management experience

 

Desirable:

  • Experience of working in Higher Education
  • Experience of event marketing
  • Experience of updating/maintaining web pages
  • Knowledge of emerging social media trends
  • Professional qualification in project management, events or marketing
