The College of Arts and Law is a vibrant and thriving College with in excess of 800 staff and 6000 students.We seek to recruit a College HR Administration Manager who has energy, enthusiasm and the ability to work with confidence and with accuracy to support College HR-related administrative matters which contribute to the delivery of the College’s strategic objectives.

The post holder will work strategically with a broad range of staff across the University to deliver significant activity on CAL’s behalf.Amongst other things, he or she will manage the contracting of the College’s bought-in teaching staff (budget in 2017-18 in excess of £600,000); support the recruitment of some new staff; co-ordinate the College’s annual review process for academic and academic-related staff; manage the administration for the College Athena Swan Committee and the College’s Equality and Diversity Committee; manage the College’s responsibilities surrounding the end of fixed-term contracts; and work in close partnership with the College’s Operations Manager who is leading on the implementation of New Core in CAL.

The post holder is critical to the smooth running of College HR-related administration and carries responsibility for significant areas of activity whilst also providing high level strategic support to senior staff who hold responsibility for key College remits.The post holder will work without direct supervision & exercise a high level of discretion.He or she will have a good understanding of the University’s policies & procedures and related UK-legislation and be able to advise staff within the College accordingly.

The post holder has line management responsibility for one member of staff and reports to a College Operations Manager.In all areas of activity the post holder will be required to provide outstanding customer service and support and be confident in dealing with confidential and sensitive information.

 

Essential requirements

  • 1. Experience of providing HR administrative support, preferably in a Higher Education institution
  • 2. An understanding of UKVI issues in a HE setting
  • 3. Educated to degree level or equivalentin addition to GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent)
  • 4. Proven ability to develop, manage and motivate staff, managing own time effectively and also the time of others to deliver work to the highest quality standards
  • 5. Demonstrate ability to exercise discretion regarding the handling and management of highly sensitive and confidential information
  • 6. Experience of supporting staff recruitment, preferably in a HE setting
  • 7. Proven ability to work flexibly to solve problems and propose and implement solutions at a senior administrative level
  • 8. Proven experience of drafting documentation for the approval of others
  • 9. Excellent IT skills such as (Excel/Word/Powerpoint /Databases etc)
  • 10. Previous experience of working in close partnership with academic staff and senior professional services staff to deliver significant strategic objectives
  • 11. Experience of servicing committees which includes advising on and drafting agendas and paperwork where necessary, writing minutes and taking follow-up action
  • 12. Excellent Interpersonal skills and proven ability to establish effective and strategic working relationships at all levels.
  • 13. Proven ability to negotiate and influence others.
  • 14. Proven ability to handle several demanding tasks concurrently and to prioritise workload, working to tight deadlines whilst also maintaining accuracy.
  • 15. Flexible, positive and creative approach to work and meticulous attention to detail.
  • 16. Proven financial/accounting experience which includes setting and monitoring spend against budgets
  • 17. Project management experience within the HE sector
  • 18. Proven experience of reengineering business processes to improve efficiency and the customer experience
