As a 0.7 fte Teaching Fellow in the Department of English Literature, you will be expected to undertake teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate taught level and to participate in the department’s overall contribution to the School, College, and University. Teaching expertise in the following areas would be particularly desirable: the Gothic, 18thC women's writing, Jane Austen and her afterlives.The post will include administrative duties. The successful candidate will have considerable relevant teaching and assessment experience and be committed to providing an excellent student learning experience.

This is a part-time, fixed-term appointment and is available from 1s September 2018 until 30th June 2019. It is expected that the post-holder will teach several seminar groups (around 12-13 hours per week of regular contact time), will be responsible for up to twenty personal tutees, and will undertake supervision of third-year dissertations/extended essays, as well as MA dissertations.

 

Candidate Requirements

  • A PhD in English Literature
  • High level analytical capability
  • Considerable experience of teaching undergraduate students in English Literature in the areas of the Gothic, 18thC women's writing, Jane Austen and her afterlives
  • Considerable experience of marking undergraduate work in English Literature
  • Ability to design and deliver module materials successfully
  • Ability to assess and organise resources effectively
  • Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
