The Southampton Health Technology Assessments Centre (SHTAC) is part of the Wessex Institute, in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Southampton. The University of Southampton is a founding member of the Russell Group and one of the top 100 universities in the world.  With a global reputation for academic excellence, we offer a stimulating, challenging and dynamic working environment for all our staff.  SHTAC is a national centre of excellence for HTA, with expertise in evidence synthesis, health economic evaluation and decision modelling.  We conduct research addressing major policy questions about the effective and cost-effective use of health technologies; including drugs, devices, tests, procedures and health promotion.  

Working as part of a team on projects for NICE, you will: critically review evidence and decision models; explore alternative scenarios and uncertainties; write reports and interact with NICE staff, committees and other stakeholders. You will also contribute to/lead research projects: helping to prepare proposals; collating evidence; analysing data; building models; and sharing and discussing findings. You will be encouraged and supported to extend your knowledge and skills of relevant methods, to develop your own area of research interest, to publish high quality research reports and papers and to present at local, national and international conferences and meetings.

The Senior Research Fellow will line manage and supervise staff, lead/co-ordinate NICE and other research projects, and lead the development of research proposals.

You will have a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in health economics, medical statistics or operational research, with skills in applied decision analysis and economic evaluation, and knowledge of methods of heath technology assessment.  In addition to technical knowledge and skills, you will be a good writer, work effectively in a team and communicate well.

Appointment will be made on one of the following scales: Research Fellow - £29,799 - £36,613 and Senior Research Fellow - £37,706 - £47,722 according to experience.

*Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
