Job Details

We are looking for a Research technician experienced in molecular techniques to help in the investigation of how phosphoinositide signalling lipids impact on the function of epigenetic regulators to modulate nuclear functions such as transcriptional output and cell fate. The technician will collaborate with a postdoctoral research fellow to generate novel genome edited cell lines that will be used to study how signalling lipids impact on nuclear functions such as epigenetic remodelling and transcription output to control cell behaviour.  The technician will gain experience in a wide range of molecular techniques and in particular develop expertise in the use of the CRISPR CAS9 gene editing system.

University of Southampton and Biological Sciences.

Southampton University is a world leading Research University with 97% of its research work assessed as world leading and internationally excellent in the REF 2014 assessment.  UOS is a Russell group member and its research impacts on government policy making, health issues, teaching and on business.

The work will take place at the main University campus, in Building 85, which was recently constructed (2008; £47M) to house Biological Sciences researchers, and those who conduct multidisciplinary research in any aspect of life sciences. This has led to the establishment of the Institute for Life Sciences (IfLS), highlighting the commitment of Southampton to research in the biological sciences. Biological Sciences houses the centre for imaging which is equipped with state of the art facilities for wide field, confocal and deconvolution imaging enabling live cell fluorescent imaging, FRET and FLIM analysis. It also encompasses the centre for proteomic research with state of the art technologies and methodologies for mass spectrometric enabling quantitative label free as well as ITRAQ analysis. The interdisciplinary centre for NMR offers the ability to collect data at both 600MHz and 400MHz in both solution and solid state and covering a multitude of nuclei. The facility routinely carries out work on small molecules, proteins, membrane systems and solid samples. Furthermore it forms part of the wider core facilities aimed at comprehensive solutions to investigations into protein structure providing a biomolecular analysis suite as well as comprehensive facilities for protein crystallisation and structure analysis. Next generation sequencing and bioinformatics analysis will be carried out in a new facility housed at the National Oceanography Centre.

This post would be suitable for biochemists and cell biologists with an interest in epigenetic regulation.
