Job Details

The School of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of Bristol seeks to further strengthen its internationally competitive research base in microbiology and the wider research strengths within the School. We seek to make two appointments in Microbiology and Biomedical Sciences at Lecturer / Senior Lecturer / Reader level.

We encourage applicants that complement and enhance current School activities in microbiology and cellular and molecular medicine (Cancer Biology, Infection and Immunity (incorporating bacteriology, immunology and virology) and Tissue Engineering and Stem Cell Therapies). The positions will be based in the Biomedical Sciences Building with access to outstanding core facilities (including Proteomics, Imaging, Genomics, and Flow Cytometry). The School also has a proven track record for translational work (five world-leading 4* “Impact Cases” in the REF2014).

The successful candidates will bring creative high impact research programmes to undertake internationally competitive research supported by external funding. They will also contribute to the teaching of postgraduate and undergraduate students within the School and across the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences. With over 30 research groups in the School working in cancer biology, infection and immunity, and stem cell biology/tissue engineering, and close relationships with other Schools within the University, there are extensive opportunities for collaboration within a world-class environment.

Potential applicants are encouraged to make general informal enquiries through the Head of School, Professor Anne Ridley FRS (Anne.Ridley@bristol.ac.uk), the School Research Director, Professor Christoph Wuelfing (Christoph.Wuelfing@bristol.ac.uk) or Head of Teaching, Dr Keith Brown (keith.brown@bristol.ac.uk); and for the Microbiology position Dr Jim Spencer, Reader in Microbiology (Jim.Spencer@bristol.ac.uk).

The University of Bristol (http://www.bristol.ac.uk/) was ranked among the top five institutions in the UK for its research, according to the Research Excellence Framework: http://www.bristol.ac.uk/news/2015/january/ref-update.html.

The closing date for applications is 23:59 on Monday 28 May 2018

Interviews for shortlisted candidates will be held on 5 and 6 July 2018 for the Microbiology position and 12 and 13 July 2018 for the Biomedical Sciences position.

The University of Bristol is committed to diversity and inclusion and welcomes applications from all sections of the academic community.
