Job Purpose

Reporting to the HR Director on issues of strategy and policy and the Deputy Director of HR (Service Excellence) on issues of service delivery, the Assistant Director, Operations & Recruitment will lead the delivery of service excellence in the provision of recruitment and operational HR services to the University. As a key member of the HR Leadership Team, the Assistant Director will play a vital role in driving the capability of HR focussing at all times on excellent customer service. The Assistant Director, Operations & Recruitment will also provide inspirational leadership to, and develop and coach the Operations & Recruitment Team.

Duties
Leadership team responsibilities
To contribute to the leadership and ongoing development of the HR Service by active participation and collaboration with senior colleagues in the HR Leadership Team, by discussion and development of strategy, policy and plans and by progressing agreed programmes of improvement.
To work with colleagues across HR and the University to development appropriate service standards for the Operations & Recruitment Team and monitor these, making recommendations for action where appropriate.
To contribute to the development of an integrated “people service” by the Operations & Recruitment Team.
To collaborate with colleagues across the University, as appropriate, representing HR at meetings or on working parties, as agreed with the Director and/or Deputy Director, and contributing to the development of positive cross-functional resolutions.
To deputise for the Director and/or Deputy Director, as agreed and where appropriate.

Functional responsibilities
Review how and where HR transactional activity is delivered and develop a plan to coalesce this activity into a single service delivery team.
Review and re-design current processes in order to provide a more streamlined, effective and accurate service to the business.
Drive a culture of customer service and improve feedback regarding the work of the department.
Provide strong leadership to the Operations & Recruitment Team, developing their skills and confidence.
Make a strong leadership contribution to the development and implementation of the University’s HR and Finance IT system, known as New Core.
To take responsibility for the budget of the Operations & Recruitment Team and such other budgets delegated by the Director and/or Deputy Director, ensuring compliance with all Financial Regulations.
To undertake any other duties as may be required which are commensurate with a senior post.
