The successful candidate will work in a multi-disciplinary research team in the ERC Starting Grant project PROTEUS "Paradoxes and Metaphors of Time in Early Universe(s)" under the supervison of Dr Silvia De Bianchi (PI). S/he is expected to both perform research independently and coordinate her work with other team members and other project partners. S/he is also expected to spend up to six weeks per year at the University of Rome "La Sapienza" and take part in the activities that Dr De Bianchi will organize there in collaboration with Prof. Fronterotta and Dr Alessandrelli, including a workshop at the CNR-ILIESI in Rome. There are no teaching obligations. The postdoctoral researcher will publish on Plato's dialogues (Timaeus, Parmenides and Philebus) and on the reception of Plato's Timaeus. S/he will actively take part in all PROTEUS seminar series events and project's scheduled activities.


The postdoc fellow will collaborate with Dr Silvia De Bianchi on specific research questions including Plato's characterization of the primordial interaction in which the receptacle is active and passive at the same time, the characteristics of proto-geometric phases in the cosmos and the definition of proto-time.
The successful candidate will work on the reception of Plato's cosmology and Stoic cosmology. In particular, s/he is expected to work on the notion of time as incorporeal ontic structure and Stoic notion of matter.
Furthermore, s/he will be working on the reception of Plato's chora, the figure of the demiurge and on the cosmological demiurgy in Stoicism and middle Platonism.
 
We offer: 2 years contract. Access to UAB infrastructures. A stimulating, international research environment and the opportunity to interact with several highly collaborative investigators. No teaching obligations. Gross salary:32.640€ per year. Additional funding for travel expenses will be provided to the successful candidate.
 
Candidates must hold a PhD in Philosophy (PhD has to be officially awarded before September 2016).

Further skills and competences in the history of mathematics and physics represent a plus.


Basic knowledge of Italian, Spanish and/or Catalan is a plus. Experience in handling databases is desirable.
