International call for a PhD Holder position to pursue scientific research activities

Ref. DL 57-009/DL/2018

Within the framework of article 23 of Decree-Law no. 57/2016, of August 29, and taking into account the legal regime to which it refers, an international call is open for a PhD Holder position to pursue scientific research activities, funded by national funds through the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P., with the following guidelines and specifications:

 

Guidelines:

The decision to open this call is raised by the research activities related with the project entitled "Development of complexes of cyclic polyamines with interest for applications of positron emission tomography", which has been developed by Doctor Luís Miguel Barroso Pereira Lima, within a FCT fellowship with reference SFRH/BPD/73361/2010, fulfilling the conditions contained in article 23 of the Decree-Law No. 57/2016 of 29 August.

Taking into account that the legal cause of the decision to open this competition is the exercise of research activities performed by Doctor Luís Miguel Barroso Pereira Lima under the terms of the aforementioned normative rule, the opening of the call is reverted if Doctor Luís Miguel Barroso Pereira Lima does not submit an application.
The signature of the work contract with the winning candidate depends on the establishment of Contract Program between ITQB NOVA and the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P., enabling the financing and corresponding budget.

 

General admission requirements:

a) Any national, foreign and stateless candidate(s) holding a PhD degree in Inorganic Chemistry;

b) Holders of a scientific and professional curriculum showing a relevant profile for the activity to be developed.
If the doctoral degree has been conferred by a foreign higher education institution (not Portuguese), it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 341/2007, of October 12, and with all formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the application deadline.

 

Specific admission requirements:

a) Doctoral degree in the field of Inorganic Chemistry;

b) Relevant experience in scientific research, at the post-doctoral level, in the fields of Coordination Chemistry and Supramolecular Chemistry, of minimum six years;

c) Demonstrated experience, through co-authorship of internationally indexed scientific publications, in the following research topics:

  • Synthesis of polyamine derived organic compounds for the coordination of cations;
  • Study of the chemical equilibrium and structural properties applied to chemical interactions in coordination and supramolecular compounds.

d) Experience in the following experimental techniques, essential for the research topics mentioned in the previous point:

  • Determination of equilibrium constants in solution by potentiometric and spectroscopic methods;
  • Analytical studies by UV-Vis absorption, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopies;
  • Redox studies by cyclic voltammetry.

e) Good knowlegde of English.

 

Duties to be performed:

a. Performing scientific research activities in the areas identified above, or in related areas;

b. Secure external funding;

c. Coordination of national and international projects;

d. To have an active role in the dynamization of international collaborations in the specific scientific area;

e. Training of researchers at master, doctoral and post-doctoral levels;

f. Participation in the academic and management bodies of the institute;

g. Participation in the life of the institute, namely in the activities of science outreach.

 

Contract and category:

The contracting is carried out by means of a work contract under the terms of the Portuguese Labour Code, for individuals holding a Doctoral Degree, corresponding to Level 33 of the single remuneration table (TRU), in accordance with Decree-Law no. 11-A /2017, of December 29.

 

Work Place:

The activities will be performed at ITQB NOVA facilities.

i) Cover Letter describing your motivation to apply to the particular position (max. 2500 characters, including spaces);

ii) Future research plans (max. 5000 characters, including spaces);

iii) Copy of certificate or diploma;

iv) Detailed Curriculum vitae in accordance with the requirements of the application;

v) Any other relevant documents demonstrating the candidate’s adequacy for the requested profile.

 

Methods of selection and definition of their weights/evaluation criteria:

Curricular evaluation (evaluation of Curriculum vitae, Cover Letter and Future Research Plans, as specified in general and special requirements) - 90%.

Interview - 10%.

If there is only one candidate, the interview is optional and the Curricular evaluation will have a weighting of 100%.

Application deadline:

The deadline for submission of applications is 10 working days from the date of publication in the Diário da República.
