    About Us

    The Veterinary Health Centre (VHC) is the University of Adelaide’s clinical teaching facility, offering a range of first opinion, and consultative veterinary services across all species to the general public and referring veterinarians.

    As a unit of VHC, the Production Animal Health Centre (PAHC) is a leading-edge general practice, emergency and consultative veterinary care referral service offering the latest technology, equipment and professional services. The PAHC offers high quality first opinion veterinary services to hobby farms, livestock and herd management services 24/7 including emergency and critical care in an ambulatory or onsite capacity. Our services provide a clinical training environment for final year veterinary students working under the close supervision of experienced veterinary surgeons, technicians and support staff.

     

    Location

    The PAHC is situated on the University’s picturesque Roseworthy Campus, approximately 9km from the township of Gawler and on the doorstep of the world-renowned Barossa Valley wine region. With local schools, restaurants and amenities of Gawler, a relaxed lifestyle and affordable housing, but only an hour from the CBD of Adelaide, the location truly offers the best of both worlds.

     

    The Role

    Under general direction of the clinical lead veterinarian, the Production Animal Technical officer provides animal care and administrative support to a team of teaching and clinical veterinarians. You will work in collaboration with other technicians in areas of administration, accurate record keeping, client communication, student support and daily operational duties. This role is reliant on team communication flexibility in approach to work load and time management. Assistance in the field, surgical procedures and critical and emergency care will be required. The ability to work as an active team member supporting other technicians and veterinarians is essential.

     

    About You

    An enthusiastic, team-oriented technician or experienced large animal handler with a passion for delivering the highest standards of service and care, excellent communication and interpersonal skills and are motivated to mentor the next generation of vets by imparting knowledge and modelling the highest standards of professional behaviour.

     

    Salary:

    (HEO3) $53,941 - $61,214 per annum

    Superannuation:

    An employer contribution of 17% may apply.

    Position requirements:

    To be successful you should have:

  • Completion of a relevant certificate or combination of relevant experience and/or education training
  • Experience and skills in handling large animals safely and effectively.
