Job Purpose

The University of Birmingham has a clinical academic base within Birmingham Women’s Hospital and undertakes world leading research on pregnancy and miscarriage. A large number of key projects are led by Professor Arri Coomarasamy including

  • Tommy’s National Centre for Miscarriage Research (£2.6m) (2016-2021);
  • PRogesterone In Spontaneous Miscarriage (PRISM) (£1.8m awarded from the NIHR HTA programme);
  • Mifepristone and Misoprostol for the Treatment of Missed Miscarriage (MifeMiso) (£1.8m from the NIHR HTA programme); and
  • Prevention of Postpartum Haemorrhage Network Meta-analysis (PPH NMA) (£200k awarded from the NIHR HTA programme).

 

Tommy’s National Centre for Miscarriage Research is one of the main projects and a large proportion of this role (circa 60%) will be dedicated to managing and co-ordinating its project activities, run in collaboration with the University of Warwick and Imperial College London. The three universities run specialist clinics serving up to 24,000 couples every year. The role will involve a close working relationship with collaborating organisations including Birmingham Women's and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, and Tommy’s charity.

 

Person Specification

  • First degree or equivalent qualifications
  • Proven experience of communicating complex information
  • Proven experience of assessing resource requirements and using resources effectively
  • Experience of supporting Academic or Clinical colleagues in a research setting
  • Well-developed influencing skills and experience of writing persuasive business cases
  • High level analytical capability
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
  • Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
  • Apply knowledge in a way which develops new intellectual understanding
  • Budget management experience
  • Project management experience
