Job Title: Biomedical Sciences Anatomy and Histology Division Lecturer(Ref. TGB02/124/0418)

The Division trains students in all disciplines at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (Tygerberg campus), as well as BSc Human Life Sciences students on Stellenbosch Campus. The postgraduate (MMed) programme includes students in Psychiatry, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Radiodiagnosis and Nuclear Medicine.

Postgraduate research includes BSc Honours, MSc and PhD students in various disciplines. These include: Comparative Anatomy, Medical Education, Islet- and Musculoskeletal Research, Biological and Forensic Anthropology and Clinical Variation Anatomy.  The Sunskill training facility is situated within the Division of Anatomy. It allows for postgraduate skills training and is utilised by a variety of medical organisations and clinicians from across the continent.

 

Duties

  • Teaching and training of undergraduate students, assuming responsibility for lectures, tutorials and practical sessions to MBChB, Allied Health and BSc Human Life Sciences students;
  • the planning and supervision of research projects and providing mentorship;
  • Teaching and training of postgraduate students will include teaching and supervision of BSc (Hons), MSc and PhD students;
  • conceptualising and supervising research projects in Human Anatomy and Health profession education;
  • expanding research collaborations and funding within the Division, as well as providing mentorship;
  • Supporting the body donation programme;
  • Leadership and administrative duties as required by the Division;
  • Actively participating in community outreach projects.

 

Job Requirements

  • Relevant experience in teaching and supervision of under- and postgraduate students and research projects;
  • Master’s degree in Anatomy or similar, with Anatomy as an important component;
  • Proven research ability.

 

Recommendation

  • A relevant postgraduate qualification in education;
  • Record of related research publications.
