Job Purpose

Under the direction of the eResources & Serials Team Leader the post holder will be responsible for managing and maintaining access to the library’s electronic resources (e-resources) using specialist library systems and tools. They will respond to enquiries from service users and library services colleagues and advise on e-resource matters, liaising with suppliers and IT Services staff to resolve access issues. They will take responsibility for obtaining the licence agreements that control access to this electronic content and will maintain a licence repository. Using specialist tools the post holder will collate e-resource usage data in order to inform purchasing decisions and assess value for money.

Person Specification

• Formal education to degree level or equivalent and/or significant experience in a library, information, publishing or IT support environment within the further or higher education sector
• In-depth knowledge of the nature and complexity of serials publishing, procurement and access in both print and electronic media
• Familiarity with current issues in scholarly communication
• Experience of working with, and the ability to make effective use of, specialist library systems and tools used in the management of print serials and electronic resources
• Awareness of a range of information sources and how they are set up and used in an academic library environment
• Ability to work on own initiative and in a team environment
• Ability to prioritise and manage workloads to meet deadlines in the face of conflicting demands
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, library users and information resource suppliers
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain and instruct clearly and concisely
• Excellent IT skills including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
• Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
• Ability to suggest solutions, test and implement new approaches, services or systems
• Proactive and positive attitude to service delivery
• Ability to organise information in a thorough and methodical manner
• Strong customer service skills
• Commitment to continuous professional development
